Senior Accountant

As a Senior Accountant at Houston First, you will be at the heart of our financial operations, ensuring that all accounting activities are completed with precision and timeliness. Your proactive and detail-oriented approach will be critical in maintaining financial health and clarity across the organization. You will be working closely with the Assistant Controller and other team members to achieve seamless monthly closings, year-end reconciliations, and financial reporting.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews GL coding on cash/credit card receipt deposits and ensures they are timely recorded
- Efficiently and diligently process refunds and apply credits to accounts
- Assists with clearing outstanding account items on a continuous basis
- Prepares a variety of journal entries including the revenues and expenses related to specific major service contractors, HFC utility expenses, events, sales tax, and Hilton Americas
- Works with the F&A Team, other HFC Departments and HFC Partners to timely close HFC books monthly and at Year End (YE)
- Performs monthly analysis of revenue accounts such as building space rental fees
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts and revenue accounts
- Prepares budget transfer or adjustment documentation
- Prepares bank reconciliation of major operating accounts, research reconciling items in addition to record miscellaneous payments and revenues
- Supports the Assistant Controller in actively collecting accounts receivable and timely reporting
- Prepares several types of invoices including tenant utility invoices and miscellaneous invoices
- Collaborates with auditors during annual external audits (i.e., prepare confirmation letters, etc.)
- Completes all assigned cyber security training in a timely manner as required
- Analyzes actual account activity in comparison to the budget
- Assists with vendor banking information verifications.
- Other duties and special projects as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or associate’s degree, required
- 5 years of heavy governmental accounting/bookkeeping experience, required
- Accounts Receivable experience. preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Computer literacy with advanced knowledge in MS products including Word and Excel
- Exposure to event booking software preferred
- Capacity to work independently and with other Team members
- Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and follow-up
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels within the organization
- Talent to produce quality deliverables
- Handle matters expeditiously and proactively, and follow through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressure
